All Massachusetts property owners have a duty to use “reasonable care” for the protection of visitors, and thus are legally responsible for the removal of snow and ice from their property!
Safety concerns should be a priority in the colder months. Snowfall, Ice and shorter days make for increased potential for an accident during open houses and beyond. In 2010, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court ruled that all Massachusetts homeowners are legally responsible for the removal of snow and ice from their property.
An easy trick to keep buyers safe during ice showings is to leave the garage door open, if applicable, and enter through there. That means trekking across less ice ground.
